Due to the harsh conditions prevailing at the North Pole, only a small part of these territories is habitable. Even now, expeditions are periodically equipped, which are sent to study the North Pole and study it. And almost any trip is accompanied by the solemn installation of the flag in a remote place. And how many of them have already accumulated on these lands?
Polar expeditions
Researchers began visiting these lands several centuries ago. The first official expeditions took place from 1733 to 1743 and were organized exclusively by Russians. Four detachments of researchers traveled for ten years toward the coast of the Arctic Ocean and explored the surrounding area. At the same time, one group of people went to the Kuril Islands.
A new conquest of the North Pole began in 1845 and ended in 1876. Five groups of British scientists went to study these lands, and three of them reached Greenland.
Interesting fact: The first British expedition organized by John Franklin. She failed due to the mass poisoning of team members caused by poor-quality canned food and a poor water treatment system.
Since then, researchers regularly travel to the North Pole. The last expedition took place in the 2015th year. Russian travelers began their route in Murmansk, from where they reached the Novaya Zemlya archipelago, and then moved to the Yamal Peninsula.Their main goal was to study the migration of local aquatic creatures.
How many flags are there at the North Pole?
Counting the number of flags left by expeditions to the North Pole is quite difficult. Most of them were destroyed by harsh climatic conditions. Also, some literally sailed on the ice on the side of these lands.
Single flag, which has every chance to stand for a long time, is the flag of the Russian Federation made of titanium. In 2007, it was installed using the Mir apparatus directly to the bottom of the North Ocean, at the point of the pole.
