Most of the time we look forward to the summer. Everyone wants to bathe in the rays of the bright summer sun lying in a deck chair, and doctors say that the sun is necessary for the human body: this way it gets vitamin D.
However, all this is so, if we are talking about a gentle summer warm day, and not about sultry hell. After all, heat is a high ambient temperature. What can I say about the human body, when the weather is such that the asphalt melts.
How does heat affect a person?
The human body constantly produces energy in order to maintain a comfortable body temperature. Every child knows that when it gets cold - you need to move actively so that the body begins to produce more energy, and, accordingly, heat. So, with the heat the same thing, just the opposite.
When the air temperature becomes very high, our body immediately responds to this and begins to slow down all physiological processes. He does this in order to produce as little energy as possible.
When a person is as relaxed as possible, the body temperature does not rise and the person does not overheat. This can be called "energy saving mode." In this mode, a person becomes lethargic, lazy, and he really wants to sleep.
However, if the air temperature is much higher than normal, it will be difficult for a person to fall asleep. For transition to a state of sleep, there are certain temperature limits, exceeding which, a person, on the contrary, becomes too excited, his activity increases, he begins to rush about for no reason, and strives for some kind of activity. This condition is often a harbinger of heat stroke!
Can I sleep during the day in hot weather?
Did you know that: in modern medicine there is a new direction - somnology, which is engaged in the study of human sleep, studies the norms and deviations of sleep.
So, according to somnologists, if in hot weather a breakdown occurs, then not only can you sleep, but you also need to! During sleep, the body produces a minimum of energy, exactly as much as is necessary to maintain a normal temperature. The best time for a day's rest is an afternoon break. It is not advisable to sleep in the evening, it can be fraught with sleepless nights.
Interesting fact: For a good rest and good sleep, you need to sleep in a cool room. The ideal temperature for sleeping is from 19 to 21 degrees.
How to get rid of drowsiness in the heat?
If in hot weather it is not possible to lie down and take a nap for at least half an hour, it is recommended to have a supply of cool water with you. It is recommended to drink it in small sips, not more than 150 ml. at a time, but often. Water helps to cheer up, as well as to avoid dehydration of the body, which is the cause of poor health in sultry weather.
Interesting fact: In many countries with a hot climate, there is a mandatory afternoon break for rest and replenishment, called siesta. Scientists say that children need such a break, and especially on summer days.
How to survive the heat?
When a person sleeps in hot weather, this is an absolutely normal reaction of the body.So it is protected from overheating. But besides this, sultry weather can create a lot of troubles, such as dehydration, pressure surges, excessive sweating, hypoxia, heart rhythm and nervous system disturbances, and slowing of thought processes.
Such processes are already dangerous for humans and should motivate them to follow several simple rules in hot weather.
- Constant drinking regimen. The recommended volume of fluid in hot weather is 2.5–3 liters per day.
- Limitation of physical and mental stress. It is advisable to transfer them to morning or evening time. It takes no more than 20 minutes to be in direct sunlight.
- Easy and wholesome nutrition. From the diet, it is necessary to remove fatty, salty heavy foods and focus on vegetables, fruits and nuts.
- Light clothing made from natural light fabrics. Preferably it is silk, linen, cotton. Headgear is required!
- Regular warm shower. It is not recommended to pour cold water and dive into bodies of water, as sudden changes in body temperature can cause a heart attack.
If you can also connect daytime sleep to all of this, you can safely say that you can easily transfer the heat without loss to the body.
By “laying” a person to sleep in the heat, our body thereby tries to save energy as much as possible. Therefore, do not resist, but you need to listen to your body and sleep. Best to do it in the afternoon. Be healthy!
