Pedigree work and keeping pedigree books are the most important tasks in animal husbandry. The question arises, how to identify purebred horses and when did they get pedigrees?
Purebred breeds
Purebred are considered ancient breeds of horses. For their creation, improvement and reproduction of other breeds are not used. A purebred can only be called a horse whose mother and father are listed in the studbook. Thus, they themselves are purebred.
In modern horse breeding, three purebred breeds are represented:
- Arabic
- thoroughbred horse;
- Acheltekin.
Arab The breed was bred in the 4th-7th centuries A.D. within the Arabian Peninsula. It is considered a long-liver among domestic horses. A distinctive feature is a dry physique, as well as a predominantly gray color. Bay and red individuals are also found. Crows are considered rare.
Aheltekinskaya The horse appeared about 5000 years ago in the territory of modern Turkmenistan. It has a special appearance - high growth, thin skin, short hair. Easily adapts to different climatic conditions.
Thoroughbred riding horse
The thoroughbred horse was bred in England. The breed deserves special attention because it has no equal among horses. The most common colors are bay or red. The average performance of such horses is a gallop at a speed of 1 kilometer per minute.Horses of other breeds are forbidden to take part in thoroughbred races, since they obviously have no chance of victory.
Interesting fact: The record holder in terms of speed among purebred English horses is the stallion Beach Wreck, which reached 69.69 km / h.
One of the handbooks of experienced horse breeders is the practical guide “Breeding Racing Horses,” written by Federico Tesio. This is a famous Italian horse breeder, thanks to whose work many outstanding horses were bred.
In his book, Tesio mentions that only a horse whose pedigree can be traced down to the entries in General Studbook can be called a purebred. This is a thoroughbred horse pedigree book, which has been published in Great Britain since 1793. Thus, this date can be considered the beginning of the horse pedigree.
The ancestors of purebred riding were three stallions that were brought to England from the eastern countries: Godolfin-Arab, Darley-Arab and Beyrle-Turk. It is difficult to establish their exact affiliation with a particular breed. But experts are inclined to Arabic.
Purebreds are considered ancient breeds of horses, for the creation and improvement of which individuals of other breeds were not used. Such animals are recorded in the studbook. There are three purebred breeds of horses in the world: Arabian, Acheltekinian and thoroughbred horse. The pedigree has been going on since 1793. This year a studbook of General Studbook was published in Great Britain.
